The book has officially launched!
After 3 days in Chicago at the NAEA National Convention, I am filled with emotions and memories. I miss the collaboration and brainstorming sessions with colleagues. The passion filled projects I couldn’t wait to share with my students. Taping into my wisdom and organizing the flow of a project in my room and designing the display space.
I forgot how exhausting it is to talk all day and how challenging the physical demands of teaching were on my body and nervous system. I remembered how protective I had become my last years of teaching. If it didn’t make my job easier, I didn’t have time for it. I saw many teachers who lead with that same spirit of protection. at the convention But, after sharing the books story and how it was written to honor teachers, their students and all the acts of artful kindness that begin in their classrooms, every one of them brightened from within. Eyes sparkled, posture lengthened, and hearts lifted.
Writing this book was a calling. Not a project, job or assignment, but a truly heartfelt calling to give back to all of my students and fellow teachers who are giving all they have and more to make a difference in the world. There is good when we look for it and my books will shine a spotlight on the good in the world and hopfully, insprire it to grow.
Reinventing while honoring my past as I go,
Teresa
